Quickly Change DNS Settings On Windows 7

You can use netsh commands to change DNS settings on most of the modern Windows OS'es. The commands below changes the DNS servers of "Wireless Connection" adapter to Google's DNS's.

netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "Wireless Connection" static 8.8.4.4
netsh interface ipv4 add dnsservers "Wireless Connection" 8.8.8.8

The problem is that you need admistrator privileges in order to execute these commands. It doesn't matter for Windows 7 even if you are a local admin, you need to get escalated privileges.

One solution is to save the above commands in a batch file, say "dns-google.cmd" and run it with right clicking and selecting "Run as administrator".

Another solution is to use elevation power toy. You can download it here. After extracting the archive to a location, say C:\Tools\Elevation, create another batch file with contents similar to this:

C:\Tools\Elevation\elevate.cmd dns-google.bat

It will ask for administrator right if you don't run it with right clicking.

BTW, the command below will change the connection to use DHCP issued DNS servers:

netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "Wireless Connection" dhcp

Things That I Can't Fully Understand About Android Development

Hidden Start VPN Settings Intent on Android

Because of the recent regulations to ban Youtube in my country, my HTC Desire phone became practically unusable since it couldn't reach Google's services. I have bought a VPN service but there was an inconvenience to use it, there was no shortcut to go to the VPN settings page.

After some wandering around the Android source, I have found the "android.net.vpn" package, which is not published in api docs.

Long story short, you can start VPN Settings activity with following code:

startActivity(new Intent("android.net.vpn.SETTINGS"));

JSP Generated Java Source Location In Eclipse

Well, I couldn't find this post's title on google, so here it is.

Eclipse WST plugin stores java source which are generated from JSP files at this location under workspace:

.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.wst.server.core/tmp0/work/Catalina/localhost/<YOURAPPNAME>/org/apache/jsp

Well, what is this? As you probably know, all JSP files are converted to servlets at runtime. Normally you wouldn't need to look at this generated code, but as a JSP novice (like me) would understand some obscure errors somewhat more easily by looking at these sources.
